Poised above an existing single storey shack on an elevated grassed site, this addition is essentially a suspended lightweight box housing living and sleeping areas. The upper level is twisted against the existing structure below to open up views, create privacy and redirect the form to the site orientation.

Various sections of the new structure are left open, to either capture immediate and distant coastal views, northern sun, or deep light penetration to the functional surfaces below. Claddings and glazing are kept simple to express the nature of the structure itself, with a nod to the classic Australian beach shack aesthetic/
