Inner City Pressure, a reference to a song by the fourth most popular folk duo in New Zealand, is a residence set on a highly constrained site in a narrow inner city backstreet. Inherent limited access to natural light, views and restricted interfaces for occupants and construction access have challenged traditional programming, creating a unique two storey volume.

Utilising two opposing open corners of the site, one for a private northern balcony with hills views, the other to open the entrance and upper bedroom to the sky, the design incorporates significant natural lighting and ventilation. Strong, sharp exposed structural elements setup an industrial aesthetic, with a cantilevering upper floor and open ground plane, allowing the design to mesh with the diverse urban streetscape/
